We are a small and friendly martial arts club based in Newlyn East near Newquay in Cornwall. The club has been set up by two friends, Damon and Gavin, who have more than seventy years of martial arts experience between them.
Our club is all about the martial arts themselves: their traditions, applications, sparring, forms, history, culture and languages. We want to help people discover the richness, wonder and diversity of training in East Asian martial arts in the broadest sense.
We teach three main martial arts in their entirety - Choy Lee Fut, Kempo and Xing Yi - together with parts of several other martial arts. Our three arts cover three different philosophies of how martial arts should be practiced:
Choy Lee Fut is a traditional "street savvy" martial art from Canton where it was used as a practical street self defence art in Hong Kong by both the Royal Hong Kong Police and the triads
Kempo is a group of modern eclectic martial arts from Japan that have influenced the development of the modern Japanese Special Forces, and more broadly MMA through the influence of Kempo styles like Shooto, Shin Kakutojutsu and Hawaiian Kempo
Xing Yi is a battlefield martial art which has historically been associated with the armies of Dynastic China, and was still used on the battlefield as recently as the Second World War
